| Abstract: | INTRODUCTION: Metabolic Syndrome is defined as the combination of three or more risk factors: high glucose, high waist circumference, high blood pressure, low HDL level and high triglycerides. Inside the Barracks, a considerable portion of the military is being affected by this disease. With this, the need arises to verify the effects of physical exercise in the fight against MS. Because it is an activity regularly inserted in the training routine of the barracks. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to seek the effects of physical exercise in the prevention and treatment of Metabolic Syndrome in military personnel. METHOD: A narrative review, with a systematic search of the scientific databases of the US National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE), Scopus and Web of Science, in February 2022. The following descriptors were used: “military”, “metabolic syndrome” and “physical activities”, with their respective synonyms. In addition, materials that dealt with the topic were included in the list of studies. There was no language filter or time limit for searching. RESULTS: A total of 766 articles were identified after an electronic database search and 17 works were manually included, totaling 783 works. After screening the citations, 765 did not meet the inclusion criteria and were excluded. Fulfilled the inclusion criteria for the review 18 studies. CONCLUSION: The studies reviewed indicated that the application of physical exercise as a preventive measure and treatment for MS factors are positive. In view of this, the military must make use of military physical training (TFM) to maintain their health and maintain physical conditioning in a position to meet military demands. |
